Iran-US Talks End Early as Tensions Rise Over Public Remarks
Iranian state media reported that Tehran’s delegation left diplomatic talks with the United States in Switzerland on June 21, citing objections to recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The discussions, which were facilitated by representatives from Qatar and Pakistan, lasted approximately 80 minutes. Officials from both sides said the meeting focused primarily on the implementation of a previously agreed memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
According to members of the Iranian delegation, the talks also covered developments in Lebanon and regional security concerns. Iranian officials emphasized that discussions did not include negotiations related to the country’s nuclear program.
Negotiators from Tehran indicated that broader diplomatic engagement could face additional challenges if the conflict in Lebanon continues. They suggested that regional stability remains an important factor in future discussions.
Chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also addressed the current state of relations, urging caution regarding public statements from U.S. leaders. He stated that Iran remains prepared to respond to any perceived security threats.
Despite the early conclusion of the meeting, both sides have not ruled out future diplomatic contacts. Analysts continue to monitor developments closely as regional tensions and international negotiations remain key issues for policymakers and global markets.
