Senior Trump administration officials gathered at Camp David on Friday for hours of high-level talks focused on the war with Iran and the escalating conflict in Yemen. The previously unannounced meeting brought together some of President Donald Trump’s top national security advisers as the administration considers its next moves in two increasingly linked Middle East crises.
Vice President JD Vance chaired the session, according to Axios. Among those attending were Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, CBS News reported. President Trump himself was not reported to have attended.
Officials discussed possible next steps in the Iran war as well as whether and how the United States should support a major Saudi-backed campaign against Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen. The meeting carried extra weight because of its timing amid rising regional tensions.
Over the weekend, the U.S. military evacuated a dozen B-1 bombers from the RAF Fairford airbase in the United Kingdom, the Pentagon confirmed. A U.S. official said the base had come under threat of attack by Iran, adding urgency to the Camp David discussions.
