A house fire in Newark early Saturday morning left three residents and an off-duty firefighter injured, according to local officials. Emergency crews responded to the incident at a residence on Weequahic Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.
The Newark Fire Division was dispatched to the home at approximately 6:53 a.m. after reports of a fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly began efforts to contain the blaze while ensuring the safety of those inside the building.
Two adults and one child sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to University Hospital for medical treatment. Officials have not released details about the extent of their injuries, and their identities have not been made public.
An off-duty firefighter who was involved in the response also suffered minor burn injuries. The firefighter was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover, according to authorities.
Fire crews worked to bring the fire under control, successfully containing the blaze by approximately 7:26 a.m. Their efforts helped prevent the fire from spreading further and reduced the risk of additional injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit is examining the scene to determine how the fire started and whether any additional factors contributed to the incident.
