A 49-year-old man is recovering after being injured in a shooting in Benton Township late on June 19, according to local authorities. Police responded to reports of a shooting victim shortly before 11 p.m.
Officers were initially dispatched to an address on South Fair Avenue following the emergency call. When they arrived, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck and immediately began providing assistance.
Emergency responders treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to Corewell Health for further medical care. Authorities said the man is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
Investigators later clarified that the shooting itself occurred in the 900 block of Highland, rather than at the South Fair Avenue address where officers first responded. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
At this time, no suspect has been taken into custody. Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the case and are working to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting.
Police are encouraging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Benton Township Police Department. Tips from the public could help investigators advance the case and determine what led to the incident.
