As Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey talk endlessly about “protecting” illegal immigrants from ICE, the Department of Homeland Security has responded with facts. DHS has made it clear who federal agents are actually arresting in Minnesota: criminal illegal aliens who pose real threats to public safety and should never have been in the country to begin with.

To drive the point home, DHS released a “worst of the worst” list that local Democrats would rather ignore. It includes pedophiles, rapists, and violent offenders with long criminal records. One example is Sriudorn Phaivan, a Laotian illegal alien convicted of forcibly sodomizing both a boy and a girl, who has been under a standing deportation order since 2018 but remained in the country anyway.
This isn’t just about past crimes. In a recent incident, three Venezuelan illegal immigrants allegedly ambushed an ICE agent during an arrest attempt, attacking him with a shovel and a broom. The agent was forced to shoot one suspect in the leg to defend himself. These are the kinds of situations ICE agents are facing on the ground while local officials demonize them from behind podiums.
And the chaos isn’t limited to illegal aliens. During a riot in Minneapolis last Wednesday, federal agents arrested a U.S. citizen who allegedly assaulted officers while armed. According to DHS, the individual showed up with a firearm and ammunition, threatened violence, kicked a smoke canister at officers, and shoved one of them before being arrested—without a concealed carry permit. This, DHS noted, is not peaceful protest protected by the First Amendment.
Taken together, it’s easy to see why public safety is rapidly deteriorating. Vehicle rammings, attempted ambushes, and violent riots are becoming more common, while state and city leaders appear more focused on shielding lawbreakers than protecting their own citizens. If Walz and Frey had their way, many of these offenders would still be roaming Minnesota streets.
That reality explains why President Trump is reportedly considering invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota, potentially at the recommendation of border czar Tom Homan. When federal agents are under attack and local leaders refuse to restore order, the federal government has both the authority and the responsibility to act. At this point, the claim that Democrats are fueling instability rather than preventing it is hard to dispute—and even harder to disprove.[/read]
