The remarks specifically targeted Second Lady Usha Vance and Trump administration aide Natalie Harp, drawing sharp criticism from political opponents and observers.
The controversy began after Vice President JD Vance publicly criticized El-Sayed’s past comments regarding Sharia law. In response, El-Sayed took to social media with a pointed and personal jab directed at the Vance family.
In one post, El-Sayed wrote: “So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…” The comment was widely interpreted as a mocking reference to Vance’s family background and his wife.
Shortly afterward, El-Sayed posted again, this time addressing Natalie Harp. He wrote: “Natalie, I think he’s had a little too much iPad for the week. He needs his rest.”
