Beautiful Moment: WWII Vet Meets His Very First Great-Great Grandchild.

Making it to the 101-year mark is an accomplishment few people ever see. The average life expectancy for people in the United States in 2023 was 79.11 years. When WWII veteran Dewey Muirhead celebrated 101 years, his family was jubilant. When you get to that age, there isn’t much you haven’t witnessed. But Dewey’s family managed to surprise him with a new experience: meeting his first great-great-grandchild.

Millie Fowler was born into the family of Dewey Muirhead. Millie and Dewey make up a five-generation span. Not many families can make that claim. Dewey – his children – his grandchildren – his great-grandchild – Millie.

The video opens with Dewey seated in a chair. Behind him and next to him are the proud parents of a newborn baby (Millie). The parents are Dewey’s great-granddaughter and her spouse. There is a red, white, and blue blindfold covering Dewey’s eyes. That is appropriate since this WWII veteran is a true American hero. He served in France for the Army Air Corp (precursor to the US Air Force).

Dewey currently lives in Wewoka, OK. His great-granddaughter, Lexie, and little Millie live nearby in Asher, OK. The multi-generational family was together recently and took advantage of that opportunity to introduce young Millie.

When they first removed the blindfold, Dewey seemed a little confused. He glanced around the room, wondering what was going on. The young man behind him (Millie’s dad) gently guided his view toward Lexie and baby Millie. He made eye contact with Lexie first. She directed his gaze to the little bundle she was holding up. As his view shifted and he saw the baby, Dewey turned in the chair to face little Millie. A look of wonder crossed his face.

When Lexie places Millie on Dewey’s lap, he is overjoyed. She looks so tiny in his arms. Watch the video to see Dewey’s reaction. Volume up so you can hear the exchange as Dewey utters sweet nothings and coos at the baby. It was truly a magical moment!
