Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters erupted in anger Tuesday, attacking both President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk at a rally in Washington, D.C. The rally, organized by Democratic lawmakers protesting Musk’s access to information at the Treasury Department, saw Waters accusing Musk of overstepping boundaries and accessing private information without voter consent. Waters lashed out, saying, “Nobody elected your ass. Nobody told you you could get all of our private information.”
Waters also accused Musk of exploiting the earnings of ordinary Americans to fund his business ventures, including SpaceX, and criticized him for wanting to use taxpayer money to go to Mars. She further voiced her concerns about Trump and other billionaires allegedly trying to dominate the country’s political and economic spheres, claiming, “They’re going to run this country. They’re going to make sure that they take over everything.”
At the same rally, other Democratic lawmakers joined in, with Rep. Ayanna Pressley calling Musk a “Nazi nepo baby” and Senator Elizabeth Warren accusing him of seizing power that rightfully belongs to the American people. Rep. Jasmine Crockett added, “We are gonna be in your face, we are gonna be on your a–es,” as she vowed to ensure that democracy was upheld.
In response to the growing scrutiny, Treasury Department officials assured that federal spending would continue smoothly and announced a review to improve the accuracy of payments to government entities and the public. Meanwhile, conservatives on social media criticized the remarks, calling them “unhinged” and accusing Democratic lawmakers of inciting violence.
