First-term GOP Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas has sparked controversy by calling for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) to be deported back to Somalia. Gill’s remarks followed a video posted by conservative influencer Greg Price, which showed Omar allegedly advising Somalis living in the U.S. — possibly illegally — on how to resist federal immigration officials. In the clip, Omar tells undocumented individuals they are not obligated to answer questions from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and encourages them to consult a lawyer.

Gill’s call for Omar’s deportation has drawn significant support from some users on the X platform, who criticized Omar as “anti-American” and accused her of facilitating illegal immigration. Others questioned whether her actions were illegal, suggesting she should be investigated or expelled. Gill’s spokesperson emphasized that Omar’s conduct raises concerns about her loyalty to the U.S., especially in her role as a Congresswoman.

Omar’s comments come amid the Trump administration’s plans for mass deportations, which prioritize criminal illegal immigrants. Border czar Tom Homan, a key figure in the effort, has explained that anyone found to be in the U.S. illegally could be arrested and deported, including those in sanctuary cities. Homan also defended the administration’s approach in a heated interview, stating that deportation efforts should not be deterred by fears of targeting non-criminal immigrants in sensitive locations like schools.
