Tennis legend Martina Navratilova criticized Democrats after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to protect women’s sports, titled the “No Men in Women’s Sports” executive order. The order grants federal agencies the power to enforce Title IX standards, ensuring that organizations receiving federal funds uphold the integrity of women’s sports. Navratilova, a lifelong Democrat and advocate for fairness in women’s sports, expressed frustration with her party’s failure to take action on this issue. She criticized them for not standing up to protect women’s sports from being inclusive of men.
Navratilova had previously voiced her concerns when the House of Representatives passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, with only two Democrats voting in favor of the bill. She urged more Democrats to take a firm stance, calling on them to “grow a spine” and do the right thing, even if it meant risking re-election. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also emphasized the importance of Congress acting swiftly, noting that executive orders could be overturned, and the president had made the issue a top priority.
