Snow in Dallas? Winter storm expected to hit Texas this week

Each night this week is expected to see temperatures drop below freezing, but all eyes are focused on later this week when we could see a wintry mix or even snow.

Snow in Texas?

What We Know: A significant winter storm is expected to impact Texas this week.

On Wednesday, North Texas has a shot at seeing a few flurries throughout, especially to the west.

The day to watch will be Thursday.

Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will meet cold air and bring a wintry mix or snow to North Texas on Thursday and into Friday morning.

At this point, we expect snow in the DFW area and north and a wintry mix south of I-20 on Thursday afternoon.

By Thursday night, we expect things to transition into all snow. It could be heavy at times.

Snow accumulation is likely, according to the latest data.

The snow is expected to taper off on Friday and will start to melt by Friday afternoon.

How Many Inches of Snow Expected?

What We Don’t Know: How much snow we expect to get is still up in the air.

Right now, models show the storm could be two to four inches of snow, with isolated amounts higher than that. The exact totals could change in either direction as we get closer to Thursday.

We will continue refining the forecast as we get closer.

Keep tabs with us on TV, the FOX 4 Weather app and FOX LOCAL for the latest updates.

Snow Storm Map

At this point, along and north of Interstate 20 it is going to be mostly snow.

Areas to the south will see a wintry mix of snow, sleet and even rain to the southeast.

Texas vs. Ohio State – Arlington Forecast

AT&T Stadium in Arlington

The weather forecast is of particular interest because the Cotton Bowl is being held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Friday.

The Texas Longhorns are playing the Ohio State Buckeyes in the semi-finals of the College Football Playoff at 6:30 p.m.

AT&T Stadium is a dome, so the weather will have an impact on the game itself, but it could have an impact on people traveling to the game.

The expected snow will likely disrupt travel on Thursday into Friday.

While getting into North Texas may cause problems, getting out should be easier.

Our forecast is dry after the snow tapers off on Friday morning.
