NFL Star Extradited To US On Attempted Murder Charge After Months On The Run

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is back in U.S. custody after being extradited from Dubai to face charges of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon, according to law enforcement officials.“Miami Police confirm that U.S. Marshals have apprehended Antonio Brown and that he has been extradited to the U.S.,” said Miami police spokesperson Mike Vega. “No date has been set for his transfer to Miami-Dade County.”

Authorities say Brown will be held at the Miami-Dade Department of Corrections pending trial. He is accused of trying to shoot and kill Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, who had been in attendance at the same event in May. Videos from the chaotic night appeared to show Brown in a heated scuffle outside the venue before a gunshot rang out, sending spectators running for cover.

“We’re told Brown was accompanied by federal agents to the New York Metropolitan Area, where he was turned over to local police,” TMZ reported. He is expected to be extradited to South Florida, where the incident occurred.

The 37-year-old was detained overseas and flown to the United States this week, roughly six months after he allegedly opened fire at an influencer boxing event in Miami hosted by Adin Ross.

The alleged victim, Nantambu, is no stranger to controversy himself. He made headlines earlier this year for waving a Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show, and was later arrested in June for resisting an officer and disturbing the peace. His connection to Brown’s shooting case has only deepened the public intrigue surrounding the events.

Brown, however, has maintained his innocence. He admitted that he had “slammed” one person’s security guard but claimed he told officers he hadn’t done anything wrong. In a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), the former Pro Bowl receiver defended himself against Nantambu’s accusations.

“That guy is a fraud, liar, stalker & criminal. He was arrested in 2022 for stealing 6 figures of jewelry from me,” Brown wrote. “Then in May he snuck into a gate at the event and came right up to me trying to steal from me and threaten my life. Media hasn’t told this story yet… instead painting a false picture of me. That night I was fighting for my life with his intentions.”

The Miami Police Department confirmed that the investigation into the May 16 shooting remains active. A warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued shortly after the incident. Despite being wanted by U.S. authorities, Brown continued to post on social media while abroad, including an ad for an online sports betting company just last week.

“Locked in, living good, and VIP energy hits different,” he wrote alongside a video of himself driving a black Lamborghini.

Brown, once among the NFL’s most dominant receivers, played 12 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His career infamously ended in 2022 after he stormed off the field mid-game at MetLife Stadium. Now, the former Super Bowl champion faces a far greater challenge—defending himself in a Florida courtroom.
