U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll has temporarily taken over leadership of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), while still serving as Army secretary. The Justice Department confirmed the leadership shift from Kash Patel but did not explain the reason. Patel, a loyal Trump ally, had only recently taken over the ATF after being sworn in as FBI director days earlier.
Despite the shakeup, Patel remains listed as interim ATF director on the agency’s website. The Justice Department is reportedly considering a cost-saving merger of the ATF and DEA. Driscoll, though experienced in military and corporate roles, has no known background in federal law enforcement.
