UFC legend Colby Covington took a torch to basketball star LeBron James in a powerful rant recently, calling out LeBron’s attitude toward America and characterizing it as shameful given how much LeBron has been able to make off of his career in America.
As background, LeBron irked many online when he appeared at a USC Trojans basketball game, the first in which his son played, and walked into the game as the National Anthem was playing, then sat down with his hat on. Many argued he should have shown proper respect for the flag and anthem by standing still with his hand over his heart and hat off, and took the fact that he didn’t as an intentional slight directed America’s way. Watch that here:
Covington’s attack on LeBron for that incident during the UFC 296 media day. After taking normal questions from the media and walking away, Covington returned and delivered his rant about the basketball player’s disrespectful attitude toward America.
So, trashing LeBron for that, Covington said, “If you hate America so much and you don’t like this country that gave you a billion dollars, leave it or come deal with me. You go to China go to go to the sweatshops that you employ all these laborers and use these women and pan pennies on the dollar to make your millions. F*ck you LeBron James. You’re coward. You’re a spineless coward. You’re a b*tch.” Watch him here:
This is far from the first time that Covington tore into LeBron. In fact, it’s not even the first time he called Lebron a “spineless coward.” In a 2022 event, for instance, Covington said, “It’s so great to have you back, Joe Rogan. We love you at the UFC, we missed you. F*** cancel culture. Tonight is street Judas’ last supper. Tomorrow I’m sending him to the electric chair. I’m going to flip the switch and fry his bum ass and electrify the T-Mobile Arena like it’s never been electrified before. Before I go, I want to say a big thank you to the real heroes and celebrities in this country. Not that woke, spineless coward like LeBron James. I’m talking about our heroes, law enforcement, military, our first responders. God bless you, God bless you all. God bless America.”
In another incident, coming after his defeat of former NBA player Nate Robinson, Covington said, “Heard they finally scraped Nate Robinson’s carcass off the floor. I’d make LeBron James eat the canvas in half the time. NBA players are the softest and most privileged athletes.”
Then, when people doubted his ability to take on the much larger LeBron, Covington said, “Same people who doubt this wear masks in the car by themselves and believe lifelong political slime China Joe set the record for all time votes when he couldn’t even get a dozen people to show up in a parking lot. Delusional fools.”
In addition to despising LeBron, Covington is a huge fan of Donald Trump. Speaking during the same UFC 296 event about how he wants Trump to put the belt on him if he wins, Covington said, “Yeah, that is exactly right. I love Dana, he’s the greatest promoter in the history of any sport, he’s the greatest commissioner. The guy’s a mastermind, (with) what he has been able to do with the sport, but I’m politely and respectfully ask Dana to step aside and let my favorite person and human alive, 45, Mr. Donald Trump put that belt around my waist and then I’m going to put it right back around Donald’s waist because he’s the champion of the people, he’s America’s true champion and he’s the greatest President of All-Time in America.”
