The United States has recently finalized rules to ban the use of Chinese and Russian hardware and software in internet-connected vehicles, citing national security concerns. The Department of Commerce announced that this prohibition applies to connected vehicles for model year 2027 and beyond, even if they are manufactured in the U.S.The ban targets components with a “sufficient nexus” to China or Russia, including software products effective from January 2026 and hardware from January 2029. This move aims to protect U.S. supply chains and mitigate potential threats from foreign adversaries.
