BREAKING: President Trump announces that Kristi Noem is no longer going to be DHS Secretary

President Donald Trump announced that Kristi Noem will no longer serve as Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

In a public statement, Trump said Noem had “served well” in the role and credited her with achieving significant results during her time leading the department, particularly on border and security policies.

According to the announcement, Noem will transition to a new position as Special Envoy for “The Shield of the Americas,” a security initiative the administration says will focus on cooperation across the Western Hemisphere.

Trump said additional details about the initiative will be revealed during an upcoming event scheduled in Doral, Florida. The program is expected to outline new regional security priorities and partnerships.

The president also thanked Noem for her service at the Department of Homeland Security. The administration has not yet announced who will be nominated to replace her as the department’s next secretary.
