The rally coincided with Trump’s angry response to a New York Times opinion column that questioned his physical stamina and overall health. The president erupted after the paper published the piece, describing the article as “seditious, perhaps even treasonous.”
The op-ed, written by columnist Frank Bruni, argued that Trump’s approval ratings had slipped in recent months and suggested that the president appeared less vigorous than before. Bruni’s assessment ignited an immediate backlash from Trump.
In a defensive post on Truth Social, Trump insisted the claims about his health were false and unfounded. He boasted that no president had ever “worked as hard” as he does and said his “hours are the longest” and his “results among the best.”
Trump went on to brag that he had received “PERFECT Marks” on recent medical tests. According to the White House, the president underwent an MRI at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in October, which included standard cardiovascular and abdominal imaging.
Doubling down on his anger, Trump even called for The New York Times to “cease publication,” accusing the paper of crossing a line by questioning his fitness for office.
The outburst followed his appearance in Pennsylvania, the first stop of what he has branded his “Affordability Tour,” an effort designed to reassure voters about the strength of the economy.
During his speech, Trump declared that “prices are way down,” despite ongoing public concerns about inflation and higher everyday costs. He also repeated talking points about the $12 billion bailout his administration provided to farmers.
He accused Democrats of manufacturing Americans’ economic anxieties, arguing that rising costs were exaggerated as part of a broader political narrative. According to Trump, warnings about affordability challenges amounted to yet another partisan deception.
“They always have a hoax — the new word is affordability,” Trump told the crowd, framing the issue as the latest tactic in a long line of what he considers politically motivated attacks.[/read]
