Following Amazon’s announcement that it would put the cost of tariffs on product price tags, President Donald Trump vowed war on Jeff Bezos.
A ‘hostile and political act’ against America, the White House officially denounced the retailer’s action.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, claimed she had just discussed the Amazon shock with President Trump.
She claimed that Trump’s message was unambiguous: “Amazon is acting in a hostile and political manner.”
The president was responding to reports that Amazon would list the price of every goods on the internet, along with the cost of his tariffs on nations like China.
The move was initially reported by Punchbowl News, which cited a “person familiar with the plan.” Leavitt was furious with the largest online retailer in the world and accused them of being biased.
She questioned why Amazon hadn’t taken this action when the Biden administration raised inflation to its greatest level in four decades.
The president personally called Jeff Bezos to express his displeasure with the proposal, two senior White House sources told CNN.
A representative for Amazon told Reuters that while they had considered the concept, they had no plans to implement the tariff marking on their website.
