David Tennant ‘delighted’ to host 2024 BAFTAs

David Tennant will host the 2024 BAFTAs.

The ceremony is set to take place at the Royal Festival Hall at London’s Southbank Centre on February 18.

It will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

52-year-old Tennant said: “I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year’s films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life.”

Jane Millichip, chief executive of BAFTA, was “over the moon” with this year’s choice of host.

“He is deservedly beloved by British and international audiences alike.”

“His warmth, charm and mischievous wit will make it a must-watch show next month for our guests at the Royal Festival Hall and the millions of people watching at home,” she added.

The Doctor Who star made his widely-anticipated return to the popular sci-fi series as part of the show’s 60th anniversary.

He played the Fourteenth Doctor having previously portrayed the 10th regeneration of the Time Lord from 2006 – 2010, during which time he received a Best Actor award for his performance in the season two episode Doomsday.

Catherine Tate also reprised her role as Donna Noble, a fan-favourite companion of Ten.

The duo united at last year’s BAFTAs to present the Best Features Award to Joe Lycett VS Beckham: Got Your Back At Xmas.

This marks the Broadchurch actor’s first time hosting the prestigious event.

Ms Millichip continued: “The EE BAFTA Film Awards recognise exceptional films and the talented people who make them.

“More than 7,500 of our BAFTA members, creatives from all corners of the British and global film industry, have been voting over the holidays and we will be publishing their chosen longlists later today.”

“We hope it will inspire people to watch more films and encourage everyone to join in the conversation on who should win a Bafta next month.”

Earlier today (JAN 5), the longlists for all 24 categories of the BAFTAs, including best film and director, were published.

A total of 234 films, including BarbieWonka and Oppenheimer, have been submitted for consideration.

BAFTA members have until Friday 12, January, to cast their votes.

Nominations will be announced on Thursday 18, January.
