A recent poll shows Republican Chris Dudley leading a potential matchup against incumbent Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, highlighting competitive dynamics ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election. Dudley, a former professional basketball player and business executive, received 48 percent support in a head-to-head scenario compared with 44 percent for Kotek.
The survey, conducted by the Portland-based Hoffman Research Group from May 11-12, included 603 likely general-election voters and carries a margin of error of +/- four percentage points. In a separate hypothetical matchup,
Republican state Senator Christine Drazan tied Kotek at 45 percent each.
Dudley has a diverse background, including 16 seasons in the NBA, co-founding a wealth management firm, and serving as board chairman and CEO of a medical diagnostics company. He also founded a nonprofit organization supporting children with diabetes and has held positions within the NBA Players Association.
The poll also found that 53 percent of respondents held an unfavorable view of Governor Kotek, while 33 percent viewed her favorably. Additionally, 58 percent of those surveyed said they believe Oregon is headed in the wrong direction.
These results offer an early look at voter sentiment in Oregon ahead of the next gubernatorial election, though analysts note that voter preferences can change significantly as campaigns progress and additional candidates enter the race.
