Iranian Official Shares Image Depicting Nuclear Explosions Over Israel Amid Rising Tensions

An Iranian political adviser has sparked outrage after sharing an image on social media depicting nuclear devastation across Israel. Mehdi Mohammadi, a strategic adviser to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, posted the image to his Instagram story on Saturday. The post, viewed by The Jerusalem Post, shows two massive mushroom clouds — symbolic of nuclear explosions — with fallout spreading across Israel, including the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The provocative image comes amid escalating nuclear tensions between Iran and the international community. On Thursday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), must abandon its “double standards” if it wants Iran to resume cooperation on its nuclear program, according to Iranian state media.

Pezeshkian recently signed a law suspending cooperation with the IAEA, which led to the agency withdrawing its remaining inspectors from Iranian facilities. Ties between Iran and the IAEA have sharply deteriorated following joint airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian nuclear sites in June. The strikes were aimed at halting Tehran’s alleged efforts to develop nuclear weapons — claims Iran strongly denies, insisting its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful purposes.

In a related development, questions have arisen about Russia’s involvement in Iran’s nuclear ambitions. According to a report by Axios on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has privately expressed support for a nuclear agreement that would prohibit Iran from enriching uranium. The report claims Putin relayed this stance to both former U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian officials.

However, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency dismissed the Axios report, denying any such communication or agreement with Russia on the issue.
