In the interview, DeSantis responded to a question about public safety during protests and appeared to suggest that Florida residents have the right to drive through crowds if they feel threatened.

DeSantis was referring to a 2021 Florida law known as the “anti-riot” bill (H.B. 1), which includes civil liability protections for drivers fleeing dangerous situations during protests deemed violent.
