Why Donald Trump broke Vatican rules and wore blue suit to pope’s funeral

On April 26, Donald Trump attended Pope Francis’ funeral wearing a bright blue suit, standing out from other dignitaries dressed in black. His choice of attire sparked criticism online, with many calling it disrespectful.

The Vatican’s dress code for papal funerals requires men to wear a dark suit with a black tie, but Trump wore a white shirt, a blue suit, and a light blue tie, breaking the protocol.

Social media erupted, with some users accusing him of drawing attention to himself. Others, however, suggested his blue suit could symbolize “rebirth, sovereignty, authority,” reflecting his non-Catholic background, as did Prince William and India’s President Murmu, who also wore blue. While Trump’s choice raised eyebrows, it may have been a faith-based or personal preference rather than a deliberate act of disrespect.
