Tech mogul Elon Musk recently revealed the shocking extent of fraudulent unemployment claims uncovered by his agency, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Speaking to the Daily Mail, Musk admitted he had to read through the documents several times before the numbers truly “sank in.”
DOGE’s findings were staggering, showing millions of dollars in unemployment benefits had been paid to “fake people,” including individuals who weren’t even born yet. Some of these “people” had birthdates set in the next century, adding to the absurdity of the situation.
On Wednesday, DOGE released an initial review of unemployment claims dating back to 2020, which left Musk stunned. The agency found that 9,700 individuals with birthdates more than 15 years in the future had fraudulently claimed a total of $69 million in benefits.
One of the most bizarre cases revealed by DOGE was that of an individual listed as being born in 2154, who had received $41,000 in unemployment payments. Musk also defended his agency by sharing a 2011 clip of Barack Obama discussing a similar initiative to cut wasteful government spending.
