President Donald Trump held his first official Cabinet meeting since starting his second term, focusing on reforming government efficiency and addressing fiscal challenges. A key participant was Elon Musk, who serves as an adviser and heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk emphasized the need to modernize outdated government systems, many of which had poor communication and were riddled with mistakes. He warned that without reform, the country could face a financial collapse, citing the growing deficit and national debt. Musk also highlighted DOGE’s goal of reducing government waste by 15%, potentially saving seven trillion dollars.
The meeting also covered foreign relations, including an agreement with Ukraine. Trump confirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would visit the White House to sign an agreement on natural resources and Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts after the war with Russia. The deal would benefit both nations, with the U.S. gaining rare earth minerals and playing a key role in Ukraine’s reconstruction. Trump praised Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick for their work on the deal. The meeting underscored the importance of tackling government inefficiencies, reducing waste, and pursuing policies that address both domestic and international concerns.
