Jordan Calls for Investigation Into Pelosi’s Actions During Capitol Incident

Jim Jordan Pushes for Investigation Into Pelosi’s Role in January 6 Events.

Ohio Republican Representative Jim Jordan has called for an inquiry into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the Democrat-led January 6 Committee that investigated the 2021 U.S. Capitol events.

While briefly speaking with CNN’s Manu Raju, Jordan dismissed the investigation as a politically motivated effort targeting Donald Trump. He argued that Pelosi’s actions and knowledge of the events leading up to January 6 should also be scrutinized.

Below is a transcript of their exchange:

RAJU: “Mr. Jordan, what do you hope to accomplish on the Republican side of this investigation?”

JORDAN: “You know what this is about. This is about going after President Trump. The Democrats don’t want to discuss real issues—crime in major cities, the border crisis, rising costs of basic goods like eggs, milk, lumber, airline tickets, and used cars. They’d rather focus on targeting Trump for a third time.”

New Committee to Investigate January 6

Georgia Republican Representative Barry Loudermilk revealed that House Speaker Mike Johnson has pledged to establish a formal committee to investigate the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach. This move aligns with Republican efforts to continue inquiries initiated in the previous Congress, now that they hold the majority.

Loudermilk explained that while the committee’s structure is still being finalized, one proposal would give Speaker Johnson more control over the panel’s composition and operations.

The decision to create a new committee follows Loudermilk’s prior work, including a report that suggested former GOP Representative Liz Cheney be investigated by the FBI. The move ensures that Republican efforts to reassess the narrative around January 6 remain in the spotlight.

“The original January 6 Committee, led by Adam Schiff and Liz Cheney, was entirely focused on blaming Trump,” Loudermilk stated. “In reality, there were failures at multiple levels.”

Speaker Johnson has publicly confirmed that the new investigation will receive full funding.

Republicans Expand Investigations

Beyond the January 6 inquiry, Republicans are also reviving other politically charged investigations. GOP lawmakers recently reissued subpoenas related to special counsel Robert Hur’s probe into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. They also subpoenaed two Justice Department officials who investigated Hunter Biden’s tax records.

According to CNN, these subpoenas aim to resume legal battles from the previous Congress that remain unresolved.

Adam Schiff’s Response to Biden’s Pardons

Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Adam Schiff has indicated he may reject a pardon issued by President Joe Biden to individuals involved in the January 6 congressional investigation, including himself.

Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Schiff acknowledged concerns about the implications of accepting a pardon. Previously, during Donald Trump’s presidency, he had argued that accepting a pardon was an admission of guilt.

In an effort to protect allies from potential retaliation by a future Trump administration, Biden granted clemency to a select group, including former Representative Liz Cheney and Dr. Anthony Fauci. However, legal experts note that these pardons do not exempt recipients from testifying under oath if subpoenaed.

Federal attorney Jesse Binnall highlighted that Biden’s pardons do not prevent Cheney or Fauci from facing legal consequences if they commit perjury. He described the situation as a double-edged sword, stating, “These pardons mean that individuals must testify in civil, criminal, or congressional proceedings and cannot invoke the Fifth Amendment.”

Binnall also suggested that securing convictions against certain political figures in Washington, D.C., could be challenging, given the political climate.
