Border Patrol agents recently arrested the “leader of hitmen” working for the Gulf Cartel during an immigration enforcement operation in Michigan last week. The news comes as the Trump administration has prioritized the detainment and deportation of illegal immigrants who pose a substantial public safety threat to American citizens.
Detroit Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Morris reported on the news on X, announcing that Melquiades Salgado-Garza had been arrested. Reportedly, Salgado-Garza is an illegal immigrant working as a lead hitman for the Gulf Cartel with an extensive criminal record.
Morris wrote on X, “Gibraltar agents along with law enforcement partners arrested Melquiades Salgado-Garza, a leader of hitmen with the Gulf cartel. Salgado’s criminal history includes felony charges for burglary, forgery and immigration. Our agents are making our communities safer.”
In similar news, the U.S. Border Patrol recently announced in a Facebook post the arrest of a member of the Tren de Aragua gang in Michigan.”USBP agents in Sault Sainte Marie, MI, apprehended a Venezuelan Tren de Agua gang member attempting to retrieve a previously seized vehicle. The individual was turned over to ICE ERO for removal. #DYK So far in FY25, USBP has apprehended 174 illegal aliens with gang affiliations. Our agents remain relentless in keeping dangerous criminals out of our communities,” the post read.
Morris posted about the arrest of another illegal alien on X, writing, “Marysville agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico yesterday who has been arrested 10 times since 1999 for entering the U.S. illegally. He will be processed for removal from the United States.”
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael W. Banks also celebrated a substantial uptick in Border Patrol apprehension under the Trump administration. The chief wrote, “What a difference a year makes! USBP apprehensions decreased by 91% from the same 7-day period last year. This sharp decline reflects real progress in securing our borders and enforcing the law. By stopping the flow at the border, we also streamline the removal of illegal entrants already in the country, reinforcing the integrity of our immigration system.”
Despite the signs that the federal government is moving to enact President Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda, border czar Tom Homan recently addressed reports of a leak from within the FBI that reportedly tipped off members of the Tren de Aragua gang. Homan maintained that the individual involved will be held accountable.
