Bondi Files Suit Against More ‘Sanctuary’ States, Cities

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against New York state, Gov. Kathy Hochul, and Attorney General Letitia James for violating federal law by shielding illegal immigrants. Bondi criticized New York’s Green Light laws, which allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses and prevent certain federal agencies from accessing DMV information, posing a risk to law enforcement.

Bondi emphasized the danger to law enforcement officers who, under the law, cannot access the background of individuals they pull over. She warned that if states don’t comply with federal law, they will be held accountable, citing actions against Illinois and now New York. The lawsuit targets New York’s laws that protect illegal immigrants and restrict federal access to personal data in the DMV system.

Gov. Hochul responded, calling the lawsuit “worthless” and driven by publicity. She defended New York’s approach, arguing that federal immigration officials can access the DMV database with a judicial warrant. Hochul expressed pride in welcoming immigrants but emphasized the importance of protecting personal data and public safety.

New York Attorney General Letitia James echoed Hochul’s sentiments, vowing to defend the state’s Green Light law.
