Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman admitted that his party’s image has become “toxic” after years of “shaming and scolding” voters. While speaking on the “Somebody’s Gotta Win” podcast, Fetterman acknowledged that even Democratic insiders recognize the damage done to the party’s reputation since the 2024 election. He believes the party’s constant attacks on their opponents have contributed to the problem, with many Democrats belittling voters and calling them “ignorant” or “fascist.” Fetterman stressed that in states like Pennsylvania, many voters who supported Trump are not “fascists” and that the party’s extreme approach alienates these individuals.
Fetterman also expressed doubt about the party’s ability to win back certain demographics, particularly young men. He noted that many men feel blamed and criticized by the party, with some believing their masculinity is being labeled as “toxic.” Fetterman argued that the party’s disregard for this group has made it difficult to rebuild support. He has also been critical of the party’s failure to address key issues like securing the border and appealing to men, stating that ignoring such concerns will only continue to alienate voters.
