In an interview with Newsmax on Sunday, former US lawmaker and retired US Army lieutenant colonel, Allen West hits Democrats for weaponizing legal mechanisms to attack former president Donald Trump.
West noted that the Democrats have been whining about ‘undermining democracy’ yet “they’re doing what they are projecting on other people.”
Citing the recent decision of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellow to drop Trump out of the state’s primary ballot, along with other actions being taken against his candidacy.
During the interview on Newsmax’s “Sunday Report”, West said, “Article 3 of the 14th Amendment applied to those people who have once taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution had been members of the House of Representatives or the Senate, but then joined with the Confederacy.”
West also emphasized that no one has been charged with insurrection about the January 6 demonstration on the Capitol. He said, “[Trump] has never been charged with insurrection.”
“But then, this again is a stretch of reality for them to try to deny a candidate from being able to appear on the ballot,” said West.
The former lawmaker said that bureaucrats should not have any authority [on who appears on the ballot]. He believes the Supreme Court will intervene.
“The Supreme Court has to overrule this and they have to do it unanimously to send a clear message to these people trying to undermine the democratic process of this election.”
A former Georgia representative Jack Kingston echoed West statements.
Kingston declared Bellows is an “extremist ACLU activist” who was appointed [not elected] to her position.”
He said “There was no charge of insurrection,” and “Trump has not been found guilty.”
Furthermore, Kingston said that “[Bellows] used an administrative procedure,” and has made a “very, very weak case” against Trump.
The former Georgia lawmaker added, “But people who are against the former president “can’t beat him at the ballot box, so they want to beat him in the courtroom, and what’s also interesting too, she’s had conversations with the secretary of state in Colorado, Jena Griswold, prior to making this decision.”
Both Colorado and Maine ruled to remove Trump from the primary ballot citing his alleged involvement in the violence that occurred during the January 6 Capitol protest.
The recently released footage and witness accounts refute these accusations. In fact, amid the protest, Trump released a video calling on demonstrators to “go home now.”
He added, “We have to have peace. We have to have law and order.” However, the video was immediately censored from social media platforms for supposedly violating community guidelines.
