All 27 Times Square Billboards Become Dedicated To Tell The True Story Of Christmas In Historic Display

In a display of interfaith unity, nine national and international nonprofits joined forces with the Mormon community in a powerful demonstration of the true spirit of Christmas.

In New York City, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints transformed Times Square into a canvas of faith and hope as part of their Light the World campaign, showcasing the profound message of Christmas. The event commenced with Times Square’s screens plunging into darkness, only to be illuminated moments later by the lyrics of the cherished carol “Silent Night,” presented in a variety of languages. This prelude then gave way to striking images of the Holy Family, bringing a poignant reminder of Christmas’s true meaning amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.

The 30-minute spiritual spectacle not only featured the Nativity and celestial motifs, but also prominently highlighted the logos of numerous charitable organizations collaborating with the Church on this uplifting campaign. This visual feast followed the global inauguration of the 2023 Light the World Giving Machines campaign earlier that day.

The representation of the Nativity in such a bustling urban center deeply moved onlookers, including Nasario Martin, an evangelical Christian from Guatemala. Captivated by the sight, he recorded the scene on his cellphone, expressing his awe at witnessing such a depiction of Jesus Christ in such a secular setting.

Denika Torres and her husband, Middoni Ramos, shared their enchantment with the presentation. Torres found the experience magical, while Ramos emphasized the significance of delivering such a spiritual message in the heart of New York City, a nexus of commerce, tourism, and entertainment. Even the typically unflappable New Yorkers were visibly impressed by the display.

The narrative of the Nativity unfolded through vibrant depictions of angels announcing the birth of Christ to the shepherds, the journey of the Magi, and the infant Jesus himself. The crescendo of this luminous event was a full display of the Christmas nativity scene, accompanied by the profound inscription “I am the Light of the world” (John 8:12). This visual spectacle was more than a celebration; it was a call to action, urging viewers to embrace the spirit of Christmas by letting their own light shine for others.
