Canadian Football League fans and the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization are mourning the tragic loss of 30-year-old linebacker and team captain Jayden Dalke, who was killed in a highway crash Saturday night in Saskatchewan. The collision also claimed the life of 22-year-old Bhishma Rajyaguru of Regina, leaving two families devastated by the sudden accident.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Dalke was driving the wrong way on Highway 11 near Lumsden when his silver SUV collided with Rajyaguru’s vehicle. Both men died at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 9 p.m. Police had received an earlier report of the same SUV leaving a gas station without paying for fuel.
Dalke was returning to Regina after spending the Roughriders’ bye week in his hometown of Leduc, Alberta. Authorities reported finding alcohol and cannabis in his vehicle, though they have not confirmed whether impairment contributed to the incident. The crash has prompted difficult questions about the moments leading up to the collision.
The CFL released a heartfelt statement remembering Dalke as a passionate competitor who played with incredible heart. The league highlighted his leadership in the locker room and dedication to the community, extending condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Saskatchewan Roughriders organization.
Drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of Alberta, Dalke made a lasting impact as the 54th overall pick. He later became an important part of the Roughriders’ 2025 Grey Cup-winning team, earning respect for his determination and work ethic both on and off the field.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders honored Dalke with a tribute at Mosaic Stadium as teammates processed the loss.
