Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett didn’t hold back Saturday, ripping Senate Majority Leader John Thune for selling out conservatives in a sleazy 2:25 a.m. deal with Chuck Schumer.
Burchett called for new Senate leadership outright: “They need to get some new leadership over there, in my opinion!”
He slammed Thune for ignoring the Trump-backed **SAVE America Act** — a commonsense bill requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. Polls show a whopping 83% of Americans back it, including huge majorities of Democrats, Hispanics, and Blacks. It passed the House in February because real Republicans want to stop non-citizens from stealing elections.
Instead, Thune cut a weak bipartisan funding deal for the Department of Homeland Security that left border enforcement hanging and sidelined the SAVE Act. He rammed it through in the dead of night, blindsiding other senators and not even bothering to loop in House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“They passed that thing at 2:25 in the morning and left all the other senators kind of hanging,” Burchett said. “All he had to do was have five of his cronies on the floor. He cuts a deal with SCHUMER.”
Burchett nailed the bigger problem: Senate leadership on both sides shows “real disgust” for President Trump and House conservatives. They lack the guts to fight for election integrity or secure borders. This is exactly why Americans despise Congress — backroom deals in the dark because weak-kneed politicians won’t stand up.
The SAVE America Act is no fringe idea. It’s basic protection for American votes. Requiring citizenship proof and voter ID isn’t “suppression” — it’s stopping fraud and restoring trust after years of sketchy elections. Yet establishment types like Thune would rather play nice with Schumer than deliver for the voters who gave Republicans the majority.
Burchett’s right. Senate Republicans have the numbers. Time to act like it. Ditch the RINOs, install fighters like Sen. Mike Lee, and force the SAVE Act through. No more midnight surrenders. America First means securing elections, not caving at 2 a.m.
If Thune and his cronies won’t lead, conservatives should replace them — fast. The base is watching, and patience is running out.
