British RT Journalist Narrowly Escapes Israeli Airstrike on Lebanese Bridge.A British correspondent for RT, Steve Sweeney, came within meters of death Thursday when an Israeli airstrike struck the al-Qasmiya Bridge in southern Lebanon as he reported live from the site.
Sweeney was standing near the key Litani River crossing, describing its strategic importance, when the missile approached. In the footage, he says calmly: “…here on the Litani River at the al-Qasmiya Bridge. This is a key crossing point and—”
A high-pitched whistle grows louder for several seconds before he cuts off mid-sentence: “What the fu—”
The explosion detonates close behind him, shaking the ground and sending up a cloud of dust and debris as the camera jolts violently.Post-blast audio captures his shocked reaction amid the chaos: “Fk! Fk! Shit!”
Sweeney and his cameraman, Ali Rida, sustained light shrapnel wounds but remained conscious. They received treatment at a hospital and were reported stable.
The strike, part of Israel’s ongoing operations against Hezbollah targets in the region, damaged the bridge and highlighted the risks journalists face in active conflict zones.
