Legendary rock band sparks backlash after attacking Trump supporters!

Irish rock band U2 has released a new politically themed EP titled Days of Ash, continuing the group’s long tradition of blending music with social commentary. The project debuted on Ash Wednesday and features the lead track “American Obituary,” which addresses a recent fatal encounter involving an anti-ICE activist in Minnesota.

The song references the January 7 shooting of Renee Good, who was killed during an incident involving federal immigration agents in South Minneapolis.

Authorities said Good was shot after accelerating her vehicle toward an agent during an enforcement operation. Video released following the incident shows officers attempting to detain her before the confrontation escalated. Officials stated that an agent discharged his weapon after being struck by the vehicle. Good, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In “American Obituary,” U2 frontman Bono portrays Good as a symbol of protest, while also criticizing supporters of former President Donald Trump. The lyrics question aspects of the official account and frame the incident within broader political and cultural debates. Bono described the track as both an expression of grief and frustration, drawing stylistic inspiration from Bob Dylan’s protest-era songwriting.

Beyond the lead single, the EP touches on additional global issues, including the Israel-Gaza conflict, unrest in Iran, and humanitarian concerns. U2 has frequently used its platform to comment on political and social matters over the decades, and this latest release continues that pattern. As with previous politically themed projects, the new material has generated a range of reactions from listeners across the political spectrum.
