Clinton had been ordered to testify in a sworn, closed-door session set for 10 a.m., but Fox News Digital did not observe him entering or leaving the committee area. His absence came despite warnings from Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., that failure to comply could result in contempt of Congress proceedings.
Several members of Congress were seen arriving for the session, including Reps. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and Scott Perry, R-Pa., underscoring that the committee was prepared to proceed even without Clinton’s presence.
Comer has also warned that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could face similar consequences if she does not appear for her own scheduled testimony on Wednesday. The committee has indicated it is prepared to escalate enforcement if subpoenas continue to be ignored.
The subpoenas stem from a unanimous vote last July by the Oversight Committee’s subpanel on federal law enforcement, which approved subpoenas for 10 individuals connected to the Epstein case. Those named included former Attorney General Bill Barr, former FBI Director James Comey, and both Clintons due to their past associations with Epstein.
A committee spokesperson said neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton had contacted the panel to explain their apparent refusal to appear this week. Requests for comment sent Tuesday morning to a Clinton spokesperson and attorney were not immediately returned.[/read]
