His remarks came just hours after a 37-year-old woman, later identified as Renee Nicole Good, was fatally shot by a federal immigration officer during a large-scale enforcement action in south Minneapolis. Federal officials say the officer acted in self-defense after the woman allegedly drove her SUV toward agents on the scene. Local Democratic leaders immediately rejected that account, setting off a public clash over responsibility and facts.

The Department of Homeland Security said the operation involved more than 2,000 federal agents and was described as the largest immigration enforcement effort ever conducted in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area. According to DHS and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, officers believed Good attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon, characterizing the incident as an attempted attack and even invoking the term “domestic terrorism” in defense of the officer’s actions.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and other city officials disputed that narrative, saying video footage reviewed by the city does not support claims that the SUV aggressively charged officers. Frey called the shooting reckless and unjustified, demanded ICE withdraw from Minneapolis, and accused federal agents of operating without regard for public safety. Family members also disputed federal claims, saying Good posed no threat and was not acting violently.

Video circulating online shows multiple federal agents surrounding Good’s SUV, with at least one officer firing several shots, including through the vehicle’s window, before the SUV collided with parked cars. The shooting sparked immediate protests across Minneapolis, with demonstrators chanting for ICE to leave the city and clashing with law enforcement.
