Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman of Wyoming officially entered the race for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, launching a bid to succeed retiring Sen. Cynthia Lummis and potentially add another strong ally of President Donald Trump to the upper chamber.

Hageman announced her candidacy just days after Lummis revealed she would not seek a second six-year term, opening a rare Senate seat in the reliably Republican state. In her announcement, Hageman emphasized her support for President Trump’s America First agenda, saying she would be honored to continue advancing it in the Senate.
A water and property rights attorney, Hageman rose to national prominence in 2022 when she defeated then-Rep. Liz Cheney in the Republican primary with Trump’s endorsement. Cheney had become a top target of Trump allies after voting to impeach the president and later serving on the Democrat-led January 6 committee.
Hageman went on to win nearly 70 percent of the vote in the general election and was reelected with strong support from Trump-aligned voters. Her Senate run is widely expected to receive backing from the former president, given their long-standing political alignment.
In launching her campaign, Hageman praised Lummis for her decades of conservative leadership and pledged to continue fighting for Wyoming’s energy industry, natural resource development, and constitutional liberties. She becomes the first major Republican to enter the race, though Gov. Mark Gordon is believed to be considering a bid in a state where Republicans dominate statewide elections.[/read]
