Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is facing intense backlash after a video surfaced showing her using a dramatically altered speaking style, leading to accusations that she was putting on an act to appeal to a specific audience.

In the viral clip, Crockett says, “Baby, cuz deez people, day are crazy, because they always talking bout how Christian they is, yet I don’t know how many dem on dat side are getting divorced cuz they gettin’ caught up sleepin’ with they coworkers, staffers, interns, all the things.” She added, “Yeah, you ain’t gotta believe me, just go Google, you’ll find some of it. I’m telling you, and the wives is bein’ messy and petty…”

The video quickly drew criticism online.

Commentator Joe DeVito remarked, “Her code switch is broken,” referencing the act of changing one’s speech or behavior to fit into a different cultural or social group.

Writer David Marcus compared Crockett’s transformation to actors who become permanently altered by the characters they play. “When I was doing theater, I knew a few actors who got so swept up in a role that they basically became that person in real life. I think Crockett has passed this point. This is who she is now,” he said.

RedState contributor Bonchie weighed in, saying, “It’s okay to expect your political representatives to speak basic English. And she can. She’s actually very well spoken. This is all an act. She’s a rich kid who went to the finest private schools. She’s not from the streets.”

Political commentator Matt Whitlock posted a side-by-side comparison video, showing Crockett speaking in a calm, formal tone during congressional hearings versus the exaggerated style seen in the recent video. “Compare that bizarre bit of theater to Jasmine Crockett BEFORE she got to Congress. There’s ‘code switching,’ then there’s ‘playing a character from TV,’” he said.

Another user on X (formerly Twitter) added context about her background: “Just so you know, Rep. Crockett grew up in wealthy West St. Louis County where she attended a high school so exclusive that one year costs more than Sharon and I have paid for every vehicle we’ve purchased in the last 25 years combined. Okay, we always buy used cars, but still.”

Crockett, known as one of the most vocal anti-Trump Democrats in Congress, also came under scrutiny this week following a New York Post investigation that described her as a “diva” who mistreats staff and rarely shows up at her official office in Washington, D.C.

According to several former aides, Crockett, 44, is described as “rude” and disengaged, often only appearing in the office when media cameras are present.

The New York Post article includes a number of serious accusations, portraying Crockett as difficult to work with and detached from her duties.

“She is laying around her apartment, won’t come into the office, and is really just indifferent to staff and will scream at them,” one former staffer claimed, adding that she is “never in the office” and prone to “freaking out over the most random things.”

Another source said it is “widely known” among Hill staffers that Crockett creates a toxic work environment and is more concerned with social media fame than legislative work.

The article also claims Crockett frequently avoids using her personal or government vehicle and instead demands that her team arrange luxury transportation — specifically high-end rentals like Escalades — and requires staff to open doors for her.

“She’s more focused on, ‘Get me on The View,’ ‘Get me on this late-night talk show,’ than on what’s happening in her own district,” a former staffer told the New York Post.

The piece concludes with a troubling note: Crockett has reportedly gone through staff members at a rapid pace due to a “toxic staff environment” that left some Black female employees feeling alienated and disrespected. One incident allegedly involved her telling a staffer, “Do you really want to be here? And if not, you can leave,” which reportedly brought the staffer to tears.
