The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced charges against 324 individuals as part of a nationwide crackdown on healthcare fraud. The schemes allegedly involve over $14.6 billion in fraudulent claims. The takedown includes 96 doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other licensed medical professionals, according to the Department of Justice (.gov). 

This coordinated effort involved multiple federal agencies and state attorneys general, according to the Department of Justice (.gov). The DOJ is leveraging technology, including cloud computing, AI, and advanced analytics, to identify and investigate emerging fraud schemes. The takedown includes cases across 50 federal districts and 12 State Attorneys General’s Offices. 

The DOJ stated that this is the largest healthcare fraud takedown in its history, demonstrating their commitment to prosecuting those who exploit the healthcare system for financial gain and endanger patients. The seized assets include cash, luxury vehicles, cryptocurrency, and other assets.
