RJ May, a Republican member of South Carolina’s state house, was arrested and charged with 10 counts of distributing sexual abuse material involving children under the screen name “joebidennnn69.” Prosecutors allege he exchanged 220 files of toddlers engaged in sexual acts on the Kik social media platform for about five days in spring 2024, leading to his detention until trial.
The investigation linked the files to May’s home WiFi network, and his attorney suggested someone else might have accessed it. With each charge potentially carrying a five-to-20-year sentence, May was denied bail due to the nature of the allegations and his living situation with young children.
