Crazy Maxine Waters: “Trump started this. He should not continue to support violence. The local police, he should talk to the people that he’s had deployed there, and he has a responsibility in all of this.

He started this. There should be no violence. He should not continue to support violence. They should not be edged on and, you know, provoked in any way. And that’s what the President of the United States is doing—to exert his power and to show that he’s in charge and to show that he’s going to get the numbers that he promised to get to get people deported.”
Gov. Newsom’s objections continued on Sunday morning, as troops were beginning to stage in Los Angeles.
“Trump is sending 2,000 National Guard troops into LA County — not to meet an unmet need, but to manufacture a crisis. He’s hoping for chaos so he can justify more crackdowns, more fear, more control. Stay calm. Never use violence. Stay peaceful,” the governor shared.
He also criticized a Truth Social post from the president, congratulating the National Guard for a job well done. Newsom said the troops had not yet arrived in the city when that post was shared.
Also critical of the president’s action was Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
“Deploying federalized troops on the heels of these raids is a chaotic escalation,” Bass shared on X. “The fear people are feeling in our city right now is very real – it’s felt in our communities and within our families and it puts our neighborhoods at risk. This is the last thing that our city needs, and I urge protestors to remain peaceful. I’ve been in touch this morning with immigrant rights leaders as well as local law enforcement officials. Los Angeles will always stand with everyone who calls our city home.”CONTINUE READING
She recalled that the last time federal troops were sent to Los Angeles was in 1992 during massive civil unrest amid the Rodney King riots. She stated that “nothing like that is happening here” and believes there is no need for federal troops to be present during this time, claiming that Trump is creating “intentional chaos.”
Rep. Maxine Waters, who represents a portion of Los Angeles in Congress, joined protesters on Sunday outside the Metropolitan Detention Center.
“There’s no reason to be here with the National Guard. The president of the United States is cruel,” Waters told CNN. “This honorable human being who would just as soon they shoot somebody down, but I don’t want that to happen. I do not. I want the elected officials to do everything that we can to dissuade them from what they’re doing.”
California Attorney General Rob Bonta said his office has been in touch with local law enforcement in Los Angeles.
“They have the resources they need to meet the moment, and we stand ready to assist should the need arise. There is no emergency and the President’s order calling in the National Guard is unnecessary and counterproductive,” Bonta said.
Meanwhile, California’s Assembly Speaker and Senate Pro Tempore said the move to call upon the National Guard is making the situation worse.
“Donald Trump is manufacturing chaos against Californians to justify a federal crackdown and use of military force. As citizens, we have the power – together – to withhold this from Trump by peacefully speaking out… Do not take Trump’s bait. Do not engage in violent protest. Doing so will give him what he wants,” said Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas.
“This weekend’s ICE raids in LA County are indiscriminate and ruthless. The terror they’ve created does the opposite of keeping us safe. Federalizing and deploying the National Guard will only make matters much worse. It’s Un-American and reeks of fascism,” said Senate Pro Tem Mike McGuire.
Rep. Ami Bera, who represents Sacramento County in Congress, called the deployment a “dangerous escalation.”
“This is not about restoring order,” Bera said in part on X. “It is about the Administration seeking to inflame tensions and provoke violence from protesters to justify further crackdowns.”
Rep. Kevin Kiley, who represents areas of Northern and Central California in Congress, criticized state leadership amid the action in Los Angeles.
