California Senator Adam Schiff to President Trump: “Stop sowing chaos, Mr. President, and do your job.”
SCHIFF: “I was here to observe what’s going on, but also to show my support at a bail hearing involving David Huerta. David was arrested two or three days ago. He is a very prominent union and community leader, the president of a very important part of SEIU. He was observing the immigration sweeps when he was arrested. He was injured during that arrest.
I’m pleased that he has been granted bond by an agreement between the government and his defense counsel, so he will be released from custody.
Things are peaceful here in Los Angeles. I hope and pray that they stay that way. The folks who are being impacted by these immigration sweeps do not want violence done in their name. Violence is never justified. It’s never justified against anyone, not against the law enforcement officers here.
So, outside people, agitators, whoever, just stay the hell out.
And as for the President of the United States commandeering the guard over the opposition of the governor, it was a pointless and incendiary action. It has made matters worse, and now mobilization of the Marines is also just inflammatory and unnecessary.
You’ve got plenty to do in your job, so do it. Right now, you should be focused on this reckless tariff war and putting an end to this big, ugly bill that will cut people off of healthcare, not just trying to escalate things in Los Angeles.
And as for your call to arrest our governor, that’s just plain dumb. So do your job and stop making matters worse in Los Angeles.”
