has been hit with a $68,000 fine after authorities determined her campaign committed significant campaign finance violations. The penalty follows an investigation into how the campaign handled contributions and expenditures.
According to the findings, the campaign accepted donations that it should not have taken. Those improper contributions formed part of the basis for the sanction.
Investigators also found that the campaign made prohibited cash payments, a practice that runs afoul of federal campaign finance rules and contributed to the severity of the penalties imposed.
In addition to the monetary fine, the campaign was cited for misreporting its finances, failing to provide accurate disclosures about where money came from and how it was spent. As part of the corrective measures, her treasurer must now attend training required by the Federal Election Commission.
