WATCH: Jesus Delivers Warning About “What Is To Come” In Powerful Trailer For “The Chosen” Season 4

The fourth season of the hit biblical drama “The Chosen,” about Jesus Christ and His apostles, is set to be released in theaters on February 1 of 2024, but the season’s release trailer is now up and available for watching. It’s a particularly powerful one because, in it, Jesus delivers a warning to His apostles about “what is to come,” hinting at His crucifixion and reminding viewers of the immense suffering He underwent for our sins.

The new season will pick up right where the finale of season 3 left off, with Jesus preaching to a crowd of more than 5,000 in Galilee and then performing the miracle of walking on water and increasingly angering the Jewish authorities in Palestine.

In the new trailer, Jesus, in an open an empty plain, tells his apostles, “It’s time. Listen carefully to my words.” The trailer then cuts to Christ putting his arms around two men and a group of Roman legionnaires approaching Jesus and his followers on a dirt road. It then cuts again to snippets of an angry Jewish leader speaking to others as a dancer twirls in slow motion, cut with Jesus powerfully speaking to an enraptured crowd. He says, in the trailer, “My followers won’t understand. The son of man must suffer many things.”

The trailer also shows John the Baptist before his death, the empty tomb, and Judas Iscariot staring at the cursed pieces of silver in his hand. Jesus, in a voiceover, says, in response to an oof-camera voice saying “But you are the son of God,” “I know it’s hard. Man makes it much harder when he leans on his own understanding.

Fortunately for viewers, “The Chosen” remains on track despite the lengthy Hollywood writer’s strike because it was able to get a waiver from the Screen Actors’ Guild. The account for “The Chosen” first tweeted, when the strike began in mid-July, that the strike could impact it but that whatever happens is part of God’s plan, writing, “Important update from Dallas on the Screen Actor’s Guild strike, which starts tonight: Unfortunately, despite the requested work we did on our end, an exemption for us will not be granted in time to avoid a shutdown. We will do a little filming tomorrow of everything that doesn’t require our cast, and then we’ll wait and hope that either the strike ends (unlikely soon), or that we’re granted an exemption and can resume filming. Yes, it’s upsetting and will cost time and money…but we bring our 5 loaves & 2 fish. God handles the rest.

It then noted how it avoided the strike, saying, “Update: Great news! We just received word from SAG that we have been approved for a waiver. We’ll continue shooting on Monday. To be clear: 1. We’ve agreed to all of SAG’s requests and their interim agreement. 2. Season 4 is entirely independent and 100% funded by donations.

When the last season of the Chosen came out, demand for tickets was so high that the website selling them crashed. “Episodes 7&8 of Season Three are so big they demand to be on the big screen. And apparently, you demand it, too,” the crew wrote on the series’ Facebook page. “Unfortunately, the demand for tickets for The Chosen season finale crashed the Fathom Events website. It is now working again, so you can get tickets for Eps 7/8 at Fathom or your usual ticketing sites.” The problem was resolved and the season was a smashing success, drawing in millions of interested viewers.
