WATCH: Jimmy Fallon Stunned after His Audience Roars with Applause for Trump’s Return

The host of “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon, was seemingly surprised when a substantial part of his audience cheered after he announced President Donald Trump’s return to the White House. For years, late-night television and most of its audience have been considered predominantly liberal and anti-Trump. The shift in sentiment during Fallon’s recent segment is further evidence of the widespread support behind President Trump.

Fallon began the show by walking out on stage wearing a hat meant to mimic First Lady Melania Trump’s critically acclaimed Inauguration Day outfit. Taking a dig at Melania, the host opened the show by saying, “Thank you. Welcome to The Tonight Show. Thank you very much. After this, we’re going to play Who wore it better, me Melania or the Hamburglar?”

He continued, “Today, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.” Instantly, there were a few audible boos from the live audience, but a roaring cheer from other audience members quickly drowned them out. Fallon’s reaction appeared to suggest he was not expecting the support for Trump. Glancing around at the audience, he said, “We’re all united. That’s great to know.”

Charging on, Fallon joked, “America’s rolling the dice is the second Trump presidency. It’s like we somehow survived the first squid game and then signed back up for a second.” Making a funny quip about liberals, he added, “Yeah, today was Trump’s inauguration, but the ceremony was moved inside because of freezing temperatures. Democrats were like, it doesn’t bother us, we’ve been numb since November.”

The host continued, “They also canceled the Inauguration Parade when you heard that Eric Trump’s like, ‘Wait, so you’re telling me SpongeBob won’t be here this afternoon.” Turning his sights back to President Trump, he went on, “Trump was sworn in on two Bibles, Abraham Lincoln’s and his own personal Bible. You could tell which was which, because one was 200 years old, the other was a menu from the Cheesecake Factory. ‘Turn you hymnal to the bottom of page, two jalapeno poppers wrapped in bacon.”

Calling Elon Musk, Fallon said, “During his address, Trump laid out some pretty bold objectives. He said, first things first, we’re going to plant the flag on Mars and return Elon Musk to his home planet.” Later in the episode, Fallon joked about the moment when Trump could not make contact with Melania’s cheek while trying to kiss her because of the hat.

Returning to Melania’s distinguished hat, he said, “That’s not just a hat. It’s Melania’s very own border wall. It makes sense. Melania didn’t want to ruin his makeup.” Involving former President Joe Biden in another joke, he said, “President Biden followed tradition by leaving a letter in the Oval Office for Trump and out of habit Biden put five bucks inside.” He further joked, “I thought this was nice. Biden designated the letter classified, so Trump would take it home.”
