White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested Tuesday that President Donald Trump and his advisers did not have a plan of action if tariffs backfire and damage the U.S. economy.
During Tuesday’s White House briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy told Leavitt that “retired folks down in Florida… are stressed about these wild swings in the stock market because of the tariff uncertainty.”
“And you said that the president right now is with the trade and tariff team,” the correspondent said. “They are very confident that this is all going to work. But what if they’re wrong?”
“They’re not going to be wrong,” Leavitt insisted. “It is going to work. And the President has a brilliant team of advisers who have been studying these issues for decades.”
“And we are focused on restoring the golden age of America and making America a manufacturing superpower,” she added.
