A suspect accused of murdering a Georgia mother of five in a brutal, random attack is a Honduran illegal immigrant who was caught and released at the southern border by the Biden administration in March 2021, according to a Friday report.
Fox News noted that David Hector Rivas-Sagastume, 21, has been under a deportation order since July 2023, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He now faces a capital murder charge in the death of 52-year-old Camilia Williams, a mother of five and grandmother whose body was discovered dumped in a wooded area, authorities said.
Williams’ family told local media that she had mentioned being followed by a man in the days leading up to her death. Authorities have not yet established any prior connection between the suspect and Williams.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by Fox Atlanta, Rivas-Sagastume allegedly attacked Williams in Marietta, placing her in a chokehold and rendering her unconscious sometime between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. on March 12. After she lost consciousness, he reportedly told police he placed both knees and his full body weight on her neck, ultimately causing her death.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Fox News that Rivas-Sagastume entered the U.S. illegally on March 17, 2021, and was initially arrested by U.S. Border Patrol.
“He was issued a notice to appear and paroled into the country by the previous administration,” the statement said. “A judge ordered him removed on July 11, 2023. On March 18, 2025, he was arrested by the Cobb County Police Department for capital murder and other crimes.”
“ICE has lodged an immigration detainer with the Cobb County Jail. President Trump and Secretary Noem will not allow criminal illegal aliens—including accused murderers—to be loose on America’s streets,” the statement continued.
Rivas-Sagastume is currently being held without bond, according to jail records seen by Fox News.
The murder of Camilia Williams has drawn comparisons to the killing of Laken Riley, another Georgia woman who was murdered by an illegal immigrant previously caught and released by border authorities. That suspect was later convicted in Riley’s death, and her body was also left in the woods.
Senate Democrats joined Republicans a week before Trump was inaugurated in a strong bipartisan vote to advance the Laken Riley Act.
The cloture vote, which required 60 votes to pass, was overwhelmingly in favor, with 84 senators supporting the measure, nine opposing, and six not voting. The legislation cracks down on illegal immigrants involved in criminal activities while in the United States. Trump signed it into law as one of his first official acts.
But nearly all Democrats remained seated during Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress earlier this month when Riley and her family were recognized.
Dan Turrentine, a former Democratic strategist, told Fox News the following week that party members were “embarrassing” themselves with their behavior.
“I love my party, but tonight was a new low. I get silence on this or that policy, and the raw politics of the base’s anger. But, for not a single D to stand to applaud a boy’s brave battle with cancer, or a man’s admission to West Point, was a classless disgrace,” he said in an X post the day after Trump’s speech.
“And maddeningly, while overall Trump’s speech was politically good, there were political holes that could be exploited, juvenile taunts that voters hate, and comical lies. But much of that will be buried by our self-inflicted stupidity,” he said.
When he spoke to Fox News host Jesse Watters, he continued his critique of Democrats.
“Jesse, it’s embarrassing. I mean, I guess fake it till you make it, I mean, I think a lot of them right now have kind of lost their minds,” the strategist said.
